Mr. Tony Lee Gantt

Obituary
Tony Lee Gantt was born, May 19th1948
in Andalusia Alabama to the late Helen Gantt, and Herbert Johnson. Tony was preceded
in death by, Raymond Gantt, Santonyo Gantt, Clara Ellison, and Ricky Gantt.
He grew up in Andalusia Alabama
where he was nurtured by family and friends. After residing in Newark New
Jersey for several years, he decided to lay down roots in Ithaca N.Y. While
living in Ithaca, he became a member of Our Lord’s Temple, Church of God in
Christ, where he was baptized and served as an ordained deacon.
He worked for Borg Warner
Automotive for over 30 years and volunteered as fire fighter for the Borg
Warner Fire Fighter Brigade. He was a respected elder in the community, where
many turned to him for advice and encouragement. The door was always open at
the Gantt’s residence.  His unforgettable
words of wisdom will forever linger in our hearts and minds. A few of his
favorite sayings are, “Don’t Be A Fool for a Fool”, “Don’t Take No Wooden
Nickels”, “The Only Thing to Fear is Fear Itself”.
Some of his hobbies were
traveling, fishing, gardening, and photography. He loved flowers, especially
red roses, and music from James Brown. His favorite sport to watch was boxing,
and he was a fan of the New York Jets.
Tony leaves to cherish his
memories, three sons, Michael Johnson of Birmingham AL, Tony Gantt Jr.
(Michelle) of Altadena CA, and LA. Bron Gantt of Las Vegas NV;  three daughters, Erika (Ray) Tate of Ithaca NY,
Keisha (David) Muhammad of Mc Donough GA, and Kimberly Gantt of Annapolis, MD; fifteen
grandchildren, Darell Tate, Ray Tate, Jona Tate, Janay Johnson, Michael Jr.
Johnson, Amir Sims, Zakiyyah Muhammad, Sabir Muhammad, Yasir Muhammad, Aaliyyah
Muhammad, Shariah Muhammad, Maria Muhammad, Safiyyah Muhammad, Ella Gantt, and Elijah
Gantt; three great-grandchildren Kayleen Tate, Jayden Jackson, and Janiyah Ford;
two brothers, William and David Ellison of Ithaca NY; Linda Mushatt Gantt of
Ithaca NY,  Gwen Mc Clain of Andalusia
AL,  Ireene Mclain of Andalusia AL, Byron
(Kathy) Mc Clain of Andalusia AL, Billy Gantt of Andalusia AL, Regina Sheffield
of Birmingham AL, a special son Walter Bing III of Woodstock GA, and a host of nieces,
nephews, family and friends.


Funeral Service Announcement Funeral service for Mr. TONY LEE GANTT will be held 1:00pm Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Kirk’s Funeral Chapel 501 Dr. MLK Jr. Expwy, Andalusia, AL

Visitation is 4-6:00pm Friday (3/19/21) at Kirk’s Funeral Chapel Internment in Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Andalusia, AL
